節(jié)能燈的主要發(fā)光材料仍然是鎢絲。其原理是，鎢絲通電發(fā)熱后會產(chǎn)生電子，運(yùn)用一定的技術(shù)手段，使電子加速。節(jié)能燈的燈管被設(shè)計成真空，其中充有水銀，即汞。加速后的電子與受蒸發(fā)后的汞原子作用，產(chǎn)生紫外線光在節(jié)能燈管內(nèi)涂有熒光物質(zhì)，紫外線光照射到熒光物質(zhì)上，就產(chǎn)生了光線。LED是發(fā)光二極管的英文縮寫。LED燈的主要部件是一個能將電能轉(zhuǎn)化成光能的半導(dǎo)體，用銀質(zhì)電線或者金質(zhì)電線將其與電路板連接，同時周圍用戶氧樹脂密封保護(hù)，將上述整體置于保護(hù)殼之中。LED燈與節(jié)能燈除了發(fā)光原理上的不同，在環(huán)保節(jié)能、使用壽命、穩(wěn)定度方面也是有著十分顯著的不同。與節(jié)能燈相比，LED更加節(jié)能。LED消耗的能源是節(jié)能燈的百分之二十五，這是因為普通節(jié)能燈仍然消耗一部分的電能轉(zhuǎn)化為熱能，而LED燈則沒有這個問題。LED燈的使用壽命更長，質(zhì)量合格的LED燈泡的使用壽命可以達(dá)到一萬至兩萬小時，而同樣的節(jié)能燈，其使用壽命在六千到一萬小時之間。LED燈更加環(huán)保。汞對于節(jié)能燈來說是必不可少的發(fā)光材料之一，隨著使用時間增長，節(jié)能燈的密封性會出現(xiàn)縫隙，其中的汞會揮發(fā)至空氣之中，對空氣造成污染。LED燈完全沒有這方面的問題，使用安全環(huán)保。LED燈在抗震防雷性能上要遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)超過節(jié)能燈泡。電壓不穩(wěn)定導(dǎo)致的連續(xù)開關(guān)對LED燈的影響要遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)小于節(jié)能燈。而節(jié)能燈若頻繁開關(guān)，使用壽命會大大降低。目前造成LED推廣阻礙的一個重要原因就是價格普遍太貴，對于普通用戶來說，使用壽命、節(jié)能環(huán)保這些性能畢竟不能被直觀觀察到，能被直觀感受到的只有價格。但是綜合考慮上述LED燈的優(yōu)勢，它安裝時的費用也是可以接受的，使用壽命畢竟有那么長，而且穩(wěn)定不易壞，從長遠(yuǎn)來說，絕對比買節(jié)能燈劃算多了。隨著家庭裝修熱的不斷升溫，吸頂燈的變化也日新月異，不再局限于從前的單燈，而向多樣化發(fā)展，既吸取了吊燈的豪華與氣派，又采用了吸頂式的安裝方式，避免了較矮的房間不能裝大型豪華燈飾的缺陷。LED吸頂燈的燈體直接安裝在房頂上，適合作整體照明用，通常用于客廳和臥室。LED吸頂燈在安裝和使用中應(yīng)注意以下幾點：
在磚石結(jié)構(gòu)中安裝吸頂燈時，應(yīng)采用預(yù)埋螺栓，或用膨脹螺栓、尼龍塞或塑料塞固定;不可使用木楔。并且上述固定件的承載能力應(yīng)與吸頂燈的重量相匹配。以確保吸頂燈固定牢固、可靠，并可延長其使用壽命。
當(dāng)采用膨脹螺栓固定時，應(yīng)按產(chǎn)品的技術(shù)要求選擇螺栓規(guī)格，其鉆孔直徑和埋設(shè)深度要與螺栓規(guī)格相符。
固定燈座螺栓的數(shù)量不應(yīng)少于燈具底座上的固定孔數(shù)，且螺栓直徑應(yīng)與孔徑相配;底座上無固定安裝孔的燈具（安裝時自行打孔），每個燈具用于固定的螺栓或螺釘不應(yīng)少于2個，且燈具的重心要與螺栓或螺釘?shù)闹匦南辔呛?只有當(dāng)絕緣臺的直徑在75mm及以下時，才可采用1個螺栓或螺釘固定。
LED吸頂燈不可直接安裝在可燃的物件上，有的家庭為了美觀用油漆后的三夾板襯在吸頂燈的背后，實際上這很危險，必須采取隔熱措施;如果燈具表面高溫部位靠近可燃物時，也要采取隔熱或散熱措施。
